At this time (Feb 08), that PCM should be marked, in the Help File, "DLC access only." Bosch announced at the Houston conference that they're working on direct-to-PCM cable for the PCM in the Fusion, Milan, Zephyr, MKZ. The cable indicate in the Help file now will not work with these vehicle's PCMs.
Set it aside for now or put it into another like car and go through the DLC with the proper DLC cable and Ford PCM Adapter in place. I'm sure Bosch will announce when there's an appropriate cable available as soon as that plan's in place.

Downloads with older versions can be opened in newer versions and the features and formatting of newer versions would be applied to the file previously downloaded. In the case of the "additional" 3 seconds of brake switch, that's additional interpretation by the CDR software of data stored but not previously interpreted. In the case of the "missing graph" it was removed but the same data remains in the data table, nothing is lost other than a formatting change long called for by users who believe - as I do - that the graph dumbed down the CDR report and end user applications.
It really sounds like the end user is out of date in his training and with the system. These are topics covered at the CDR User's Conference and in the CDR training.

We've seen this from time-to-time where someone goes to reprogram the interface and it fails in 2.9. In class I have them roll back to 2.8, reprogram the interface, install back to 2.9 and then try again. Seems to work.

This is one of those questions that doesn't have a simple "yes" or "no" answer. The Navigator doesn't have a currently accessible ACM. There may be data stored in the PCM but, depending on many factors, that data may be lost by now. The list of what can and cannot be done with the vehicle at this point, depending on what's already happend to it and what you intend to attempt to recover not to mention how you intend to recover it is lengthy and is the subject of parts of the Bosch approved CDR Technician course and goes well beyond what space we have available to attempt to explore here.

It means the laptop is not talking to the CDR interface module at all. Check (a) to see if your computer COM port is set up properly and selected in the CDR software and (b) that there is power to the interface module (booster application considerations may apply here). If you're using a Dell A series laptop, you may have to call Bosch Technical support for further assistance in this area. The Dell A series conflict appears to have been resolved in version 3.0.

Your license to use the CDR Software is described in the CDR Software EULA and may be limited to two installations. Check with Bosch sales and support for details for your particular subscription or license agreement.
Currently CDR is only supported for use on computers using Windows up to the XP series. It is not currently supported for the Vista OS but may be in the future. There does not appear to be a minimum memory/speed requirement and the system has been used on computers in the Windows 95 OS and operating with "486" processors. That may not be the case in the coming months as the system becomes more complex.

CSV Pro runs as an Excel Template. It is licensed either to an individual or company. If the copy of the program you are using is licensed to a company, it may be used on any computer in that company running Excel. If the license is to an individual, it may be copied to and usd on on that individual's computer.

We do not maintain a list of the release dates for the entire history of CDR.
If you have your original CD's for each major release, they include a readme.txt that provides information specific to that release.

Since you describe the van as "badly burned," I'm assuming you're trying a "desktop" download. You mentioned you've tested the interface communications so, while there are two potential modules that error message refers to, you seem to have narrowed it down to communication with the airbag control module. What's missing is an indication of (a) whether or not the module itself was burned or appears, at the connector, melted/damage in some way and (b) whether or not you're using the GM Power Booster AND have the external power applied, per instruction, to the booster and NOT the interface module. Once you attach the booster and power it properly, if the SDM still won't download, you need to establish whether or not there's damage to the module then, the SDM supplier (Delphi, not Bosch) may be able to tell you whether or not they can download it for you but it's a bit pricey.

The Bosch CDR System software runs on a Windows-based operating system and is supported using Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home and Pro), and Windows Vista (beginning with software version 3.1). You will also need either a dedicated serial port or USB port for the CDR Interface Module to run.

The subscription offered through Bosch is a software only subscription and does not include hardware updates. Due to the varying costs of cable manufacturing and the unknown of when and what cables will be available with newly supported vehicles, Bosch can't offer hardware on a subscription basis.

"Error number 7, out of memory" has nothing to do with the installation, version or operation of the CDR program itself.
It occurs when the end user is trying to use the CDR program to open a non-CDR file or a CDR file that has been corrupted.

There is simply insufficient information here to address the problem. Please call Bosch Technical Support.

"The VIN showed ACM data available...How is it possible for the CDR to report viable data on this vehicle?"
No, that's not what was happening. There is no indication, based on a VIN alone, that there is "data available." That VIN was simply not excluded from the program because Bosch assumes people won't try to run VINs for vehicles not listed as supported. to exclude the many VINs for veicles NOT supported would mean a programming database that would do nothing more than increase the cost of the program unnecessarily.
"attempted the D/L and got a S/W error, so no data could be D/L..."
This follows the information above and is THe indication of accessibility as indicated in the Bosch approved CDR Technician Course. The software (S/W) ID error indicates the module you were trying to communicate with is NOT supported, there is no data retrievable with the CDR system.
"I am using Vista Home 64 bit OS. Is the CDR software compatible with 64 bit systems?"
Yes, if you're using CDR version 3.1, that version supports Vista.

What's missing here is some meaningful detail and that may be perhaps why Tech Support wanted you to get some help with your computer to ensure their software is installed properly on that and then look at how it may be running. Reading between the lines here, it seems you had v3.0 on "Computer A" and then installed v3.1 on that computer. The question is: did you do the installation following the directions in the installation program (UNinstall 3.0, reboot and then install 3.1?) IF you'd follow that process, then 3.1 should have "worked properly." The problem here is that there's no indication as to WHY you were "unable" to do the download. Was there a specific CDR Program error message? Or was there a specific Windows error message? Was there communication with the CDR Interface or not? Did you install the Bosch USB to serial adapter then try to use one from another company...or vise versa? Did your computer go to a "blue screen?" On "machine B" with Win 2000, was that a fresh install or did you follow the installation process as directed in the v3.1 CDR installation instructions?
A complaint is a great catharsis but a solution requires information and there's just none here.
If Bosch Tech Support is telling you to talk to the folks from the "Geek Squad" about your compuuter, it sounds like, during their attempt to help you, you had some discussion with them about where you bought your computer and it seems like what they think you're experiencing - based on what information you provided to them - is something other than a CDR program issue, it sounds like an issue with your computer.

"CDR" stands for Crash Data Retrieval (System) which is the system used to access data which may be found in passenger cars, light trucks and SUVs. There is no "CDR" in those vehicles.
The Bosch CDR System does not access data which may be found in Mercedes vehicles.

Try this download using version 3.1.1 which should address the software ID issue. If it does not, note the software ID and call Bosch technical support and provide that software ID for further assistance.

This is not a problem with the CDR software (although you should realy be running the latest version of the CDR prpogram, not one that was out of date in 2007). This is an issue with how your computer is set up. Error 75 is a Microsoft runtime error described as: "Program does not have rights or access to a file. Often this is caused when a program is trying to access a network file it doesn't have proper access to either because of network privileges or something is blocking the program. This issue can also be caused when the file is being used by another program or is read-only."
It sounds like your IT people have restricted your access to portions of our computer/hard drive and that's preventing the writing process. In newer versions of the CDR program, selecting a default file storage folder other than that where the program resides often fixes this issue. In the alternative, having administrative rights to write to the default foder/location will solve the problem.

No, the 09 Milan is not currently supported into version 3.2 which should be shipping in May, 09. On the other hand, that doesn't mean it won't be supported in a later release. Neither us nor Bosch will speculate on future coverage which is dependent on OE direction and integraton into the CDR program itself so we're not in a position to say whether or not it would be supported in a version after 3.2.

CDR v3.1 and v3.1.1 software versions do not support collecting data thru the DLC on the 2009 Dodge Journey.
The coverage notes for these vehicles were confusing because note 6 was intended to be generic and applicable to all supported Chrysler vehicles except for the vehicles that included note 7.
The Help file notes were changed in CDR v3.2 which now supports DLC data collection thru the DCL on the 2009 Dodge Journey. CDR v3.2 help file has also been changed so that it is less confusing.

There are no stand alone "user's manuals" for the CDR program. There is (a) the Help file which is part of the program itself and is viewed from within the program and (b) course materials for the CDR Technician and Analyst courses. Notably, v2.900 is long out of date. If someone did a download in v2.9 and has since reopened the CDR file in ver 3.2 (the current version), for example, the contents of v2.9 are largely irrelevant since the translation of the data recovered using v2.9 would be done in v3.2.
The CDR Help file and Data Limitations text specifically call for a downloaded data file to be opened and reviewed in the context of the latest version (which is now v3.2) so having the v2.9 software to look at that Help file for some purpose wouldn't be terribly meaningful if someone is properly reviewing the data in v3.2.

The starter kit would get you data from supported cars at most crash scenes assuming you wanted to take the time to get the car repowered or that it could be repowered in the first place. The starter kit includes the hardware and software to do in-car downloads. the expanded kits give you access to the modules directly which, while some would contend is required more often, may be unnecessary in many cases.

The warning message must say more than that. Dialog boxes whether generated by Windows or the CDR program give more detail and may indicate a solution. It "sounds like" you haven't installed a COM port or there's not one on your computer. You should reinstall CDR and watch for options to install the Bosch USB to RS232 (serial) port adapter. In the alternative, you mayhave to buy a suitable adapter on your own.

The error "run-time error 8020 - error reading communication device" is not a CDR software problem. CDR works well under Vista 32bit as well as 64bit and when there's a CDR problem, there's a CDR generated error dialog box but this error is not a CDR generated dialog box. A couple solutions are found at Microsoft's Help and Support site at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;957264&sd=rss&spid=3223 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841700

The problem is as noted in the previous links "because the MSComm32.ocx control uses the "return quickly" feature of the Windows COM port driver. The redirected port implementation sets the status to pending. This setting affects the functionality of the MSComm32.ocx control." It's a problem related to your system and the selected COM port and or COM port emulator (USB to Serial device). Start there for tech support. If you're using the Bosch USB to serial adapter, it IS compatible with Vista 64bit but the error message you're getting, as previously noted, is not wit CDR rather in your system configuration.

It sounds like you just copied the files from one computer to another rather than running an installation. If your license for the software allows for multiple installations, you should copy the contents of the installation CD to the thumb drive and install from that drive or from a folder where you copied those contents to the netbook. Missing or improperly registered files are normally a function of incomplete or improper installations.

The current version is 3.4 and should be installed after UNinstalling other pervious versions. Uninstalling the program doesn't delete previously imaged crash data; however, to be sure, you should always backup CDR files in a second location.

There are no pictures of airbags on the bottom of any airbag control module. You most progably have something else. Moreover, check the most current version of the CDR program to make sure that the cable being called out it in fact the right one.

The Bosch Crash Data RETRIEVAL system does NOT "reset" airbag CONTROL modules. Moreover, except where an airbag control module may be useed for more than one deployment event, the OE service manuals call for the module to be replaced with a new one. Replacing an airbag conrtol module with a used part and one with questionable "resetting" may make that module unreliable in the event of a future crash event. Reusing airbag control modules is NOT recommended.

The installation is corrupted not the program itself. When you install a new version you MUST uninstall the old one AND reboot before installing the newer version. You most probably have 2 installations (more acurately one and a half installations) on your computer. Check Control Panel and then under installed programs see if CDR isn't listed twice. That'd tell you it's improperly installed. Bosch tech support can help you with the steps to correcting this issue.
