Generally, these modules are not capable of capturing "pre-crash" data; however, they may record important information about the status of the vehicle at impact and the activities of the airbag control module (the Restraint Control Module or RCM) to deploy restraint system components.

Depending on the module type, the report may provide you with several data elements which may include:

  • Whether or not there were restraint system diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) active when the event occurred
  • Driver’s and right front passenger’s seat belt status (Buckled/Unbuckled)
  • Driver seat track forward of position sensor (Yes/No).
  • Right front passenger Occupant Classification Status indicator for those vehicles equipped with the appropriate system
  • Time from algorithm enable to driver’s and passenger’s seat belt pretensioner deployment enable (msec)
  • Timing of the deployment command for various restraint systems including the driver’s and passenger’s first and, where applicable, second stage airbags and belt pretensioners for buckled occupants (msec)
  • A maximum delta- V recorded as far out in time as the algorithm runs.
  • Users should be aware that most crashes last 100 to 150ms, but the algorithm run time may go well beyond the end of the crash and the Delta V recorded may overstate or understate the Delta V of the crash depending upon post crash accelerations.
  • Longitudinal Crash Pulse data including a data table and data graph showing the longitudinal acceleration and resulting change in forward velocity (delta-V, MPH) versus time (Acceleration and delta-V polarity conforms to SAE J211)
  • The module captures 192 longitudinal acceleration data points at 0.8ms intervals, and 50ms after deployment will be displayed with the remaining time before deployment.
  • Users should be aware that most crashes last 100 to 150 milliseconds, and that the limited time duration of data in the graph may not be sufficient to capture the entire crash. Proper use of this limited data is taught in the Bosch approved CDR analyst training class.

Important: Always refer to the Data Limitations/ Module Information section in the CDR report for further information about the data collected from these modules.
