The Crash Data Retrieval Tool

The CDR Tool is a commercially available tool, allowing you to image crash data directly from all supported vehicles giving you a detailed report of critical data parameters leading up to and during a crash. Some of the parameters include pre-crash data, vehicle speed, brake status, throttle position, ignition cycles, delta-V, seat belt status, and others.

Volkswagen ACM Cable BundleAnnouncement: Volkwagen Added!
CDR Patch 13.0.1 Released Includes Volkswagen Coverage and New ACM Cables

We are very pleased to announce that Volkswagen vehicles have been added to the CDR Tool software coverage.  Bosch has released a software patch containing coverage for select 2015 Volkswagen vehicles sold in USA.

The Bosch CDR Tool will support imaging EDR data of 2015 Volkswagen vehicles through the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) and directly from the Airbag Control Module (ACM).  New Bosch CDR cables will be required to image a vehicle directly at the ACM.

Technical Service Bulletin - April 22, 2014

On some PCs, after the installation of the update from CDR version 12.2 or 12.2.1 to CDR version
12.3, CDR displays an error message when trying to run the CDR program (see figure 1 below
for example of the error message). The error indicates there are corrupt or missing files that
have an extension of “.esdr3” causing CDR to close. The number of “.esdr3” files reported in the
error message varies.

CDR BMW Cable 798Announcement: New BWM 3 ACM Cable

Now available is a new Bosch CDR ACM cable for BMW. This new BMW cable supports direct-to-module imaging of model year 2015 BMW X1 and Z4 vehicles. This is a US only supported ACM cable.

Announcement: Bosch, Audi Sign ‘Event Data Recorder’ Agreement

March 13, 2014—Audi AG and Bosch Automotive Service Solutions have entered into a licensing agreement to allow Bosch access to Audi Event Data Recorder (EDR) system information.

EDR access will be used to communicate with Audi passenger vehicles via the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) tool, used to analyze and understand vehicle behavior before and during crashes.

“Adding Audi vehicles to our list of supported vehicle manufacturers further expands our support to the government, the automotive industry and the other related industries that rely on EDR information.” said Bernd Heppner, vice president of Bosch Automotive Service Solutions. - read article

Bosch is the only manufacturer that makes a commercially available CDR Tool and Crash Data Group is the exclusive distributor in the USA and a reseller for Bosch Canada. Purchasing the Bosch CDR Tool

If you are interested in purchasing the Bosch CDR Tool there are a couple options:

  • CDR Tool Premium: This is the complete CDR Tool with all available hardware and software for imaging vehicles included on the current "Vehicle Coverage List". More info.

  • CDR Tool DLC Base Kit: This is considered the "starter kit". It contains all the necessary hardware to image vehicles through the vehicle's diagnositc link connector (DLC). It DOES NOT include any cables or adapters required for imaging EDR data directly to the airbag control module (ACM), powertrain control module (PCM), or rollover sensor module (ROS). More info.
